Donetsk area. As of the morning on January 16, four people killed and five got missile wounds in the result of firing at Petrovsky district of Donetsk. The Ukrainian occupation army was holding continuous artillery firing of Gorlovka (DPR), many residents had to shelter in the basements. The UAF fired the city with artillery, MLRSs, and tanks, while the DPR’s army was replying to the enemy’s fire. Some of Militiamen are injured. There was a power shutdown for few hours in some areas of Komsomolets, Rtutniy, Pyatiy Kvartal, and Bessarabskiy districts. Many residents got window glasses broken and furniture destroyed at their apartments. In the direction of Donetsk, the UAF started firing from location near Avdeevka towards Putilovka area at about 04:00 (MSK).

Tight fog in Donetsk hinders holding the war (or assists keeping the peace). The UAF has started heavy artillery fire (likely from the area of the village of Peski) at the perimeter of airport – one can hear the tanks firing at that area right now, but the visibility is low because of fog.

During the night the UAF were firing at Pervomaisk from Popasnaya, receiving replying fire.

Debaltsevo. Strong fighting near Nikishino. Attacks from the area of Gorlovka towards Svetlodarsk. Presumably, the UAF has brought up the immediate reserve, and Debaltsevo may become soon another significant place in the epicentre of violent fighting. For some reason, the Ukrainian militiamen prevented the supply of provisions and fuel to Debaltsevo, and the town is close to humanitarian disaster. Especially, it will be awful if there comes a black frost.

According to the Militiaman “Zemlyak”, the NAF destroyed artillery of the UAF near Mariinka, while the 2nd company of the Brigade “Vostok” is on the offensive.

Lugansk area. At about 05:00 (MSK) the Militia started firing from Lugansk at the positions of UAF near the town of Schastie. At about 02:00 (MSK) the Militia started firing with “Grad” missiles from Lugansk towards the positions of the UAF near Stanitsa Luganskaya. At about 06:30 (MSK) one could hear very strong close artillery fire in Alchevsk. Local fighting took place at Bakhmutka. Besides, the enemy’s drones and sabotage-reconnaissance groups activity was noticed along the whole frontline.

Generally, there is a slack accumulation of Novorossiya’s armed forces near Mariupol, as well as near Lugansk, where the NAF is holding strong artillery preparation, and the firing zone is pretty wide—almost the whole frontline.

  2. All these tactical situations could be greatly ameliorated by the use of armed (RPG?) ultralight aircraft in a wide variety of roles, but surprise massed attack by 10-20 units on movements of armor or artillery emplacements would be handy now. Very small pilots (women?) and long glide path with engine off allows for totally silent attack. Able to take off and land virtually anywhere allows close support of infantry and rapid evacuation of wounded. So many virtues and so cheap! Kits with engine for a few thousand$. Factories in Donetsk could manufacture quickly, improve on designs. Super easy to fly. almost no radar signature.

Single engine fixed wing aircraft (Piper Cub) have been used successfully in war but have bigger radar and heat signature and need some sort of prepared runway, unlike ultralights.

Go to Kiev with unconventional means, save lives, limit destruction, a quick and decisive win. Rewrite the balance between local resistance and industrial scale warfare. Dare to be innovative.
